ILLU Residency
ILLU Science & Art Hub, Ilulissat, Greenland
2023
“From February - April as well as July 2023, I worked with climate narratives to develop ILLU Science & Art Hub.
ClimateNarratives is an interdisciplinary project exploring climate change impacts on indigenous communities in Greenland's coastal regions and low-lying Pacific islands. It integrates climate and social sciences with art, alongside indigenous knowledge, to assess challenges and opportunities arising from climate change. As part of this project I was invited to develop a building in Ilulissat, Greenland that would act as a community gathering space. ILLU Science & Art Hub is the bridge between climate narratives and the local community of Ilulissat.
My aim was to form connections between the local community and the soon to be opened Science & Art Hub as well as develop it as usable public space. These two activities happened simultaneously by hosting workshops and involving members of the local community to actively help build elements of furniture and other infrastructure for the space.
In July I returned to continue developing the space as a gallery culminating in a collaborative workshop and exhibition held with ecologist Freya Coursey.”
